Who the Course is For
This course is for people who have a responsibility for environmental issues, their management & implications for their organization and also who need a basic awareness of environmental issues.
This course has been designed for those who need to manage environmental issues in compliance with their organization’s policy, legislation & best practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Appreciate how global & local environmental issues evolve, & identify why & how they can be incorporated into the management of an organization.
- Understand in general terms the impacts of societal activities on the earth's natural systems.
- Outline practical ways in which an organization can reduce its impacts, both strategically & operationally.
- Understand inter-relationships of the environmental, economic, social & ethical aspects of sustainability.
- Understand in general terms the structure of the regulatory process.
- Determine the key environmental legislation, agreements & initiatives relating to an organization & their relevance to operations.
- Instigate management controls to ensure that operations do not pollute & compliance is maintained.
- Design & implement processes for the assessment, interpretation & management of environmental performance
- Understand the issues, basic science and philosophy that underpin environmental sustainability
- Identify environmental issues within their workplace.
- To identify hazards to the environment both generally & from an organisational perspective
- To apply management principles & advice on good management practice relating to environmental issues
- To communicate environmental practices effectively to all levels of staff, including senior management
- To introduce environmental reviews taking into account current good practice
- To explain the component parts of an environmental management system such as ISO 14001
- To recognise that adequate & appropriate information, training & supervision relating to environmental issues is required for employees
- To identify the responsibilities of organisations regarding compliance with environmental legislation
